What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is a complementary medicine which looks at each person as an individual using a holistic approach.

As Therapists we work with you to find out the 'root cause' underlying your health issues  to optimize your personal well being. We do this by detecting any underlying imbalances and applying the latest nutritional science to help you achieve optimum health and performance.

We use a wide range of tools to assess an individual’s symptoms such as comprehensive questionnaires and consultations, symptom measurement, biometric analysis, GP blood tests, functional testing and more.

Nutritional therapy is suitable for anyone of any age, whether you have specific concerns to target or want to improve your overall well being.

Naturopathic Nutrition

As a Nutritional Therapist I gained a diploma in 'Naturopathic Nutrition'.

This means that I take a 'food first' approach and follow these 6 principles as my foundation.

  • First do no harm - I encourage healing via the most natural, least invasive and non toxic methods
  • Doctor as teacher - I am here to educate you and guide you in your health journey
  • Identify and treat the causes - I believe every symptom and condition has an original underlying cause and I work on finding this , this is known as a 'root cause' approach. This is opposed to a 'sticking plaster' approach where only symptoms are treated. I am looking for the 'why' behind the symptoms or condition.
  • Treat the whole person  - I am not looking at body systems or symptoms individually, I take a truly 'holistic' approach which integrates the person's physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions. I know that body systems and organs do not work alone and everything is interconnected
  • The healing power of nature - I believe that the body is always trying to heal and it has an innate capacity for healing. I work on harnessing this natural power to bring the body back into balance
  • Prevention - I educate you and work on enabling you to keep the body in balance to promote disease prevention by listening to, understanding and caring for your body, mind and spirit

How do you know if Nutritional Therapy is right for you?

Nutritional Therapy can benefit anyone and is personalised to your  unique case history, symptoms and lifestyle. We can work with anyone of any age, although we all have our specialist areas that we feel most passionate about. For example some people may want to specialise in children's health and others in geriatric health.

We do not replace primary care practitioners e.g. GPs but we do work closely alongside them to ensure you're getting the best care possible.

From time to time we will make use of our wider network and refer to other holistic practitioners as part of your care, such as acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists and counsellors.

Skin Complaints

Skin health is a real passion of mine. Having had chronic eczema throughout my childhood and acne as a young adult, I truly empathise with how it can affect confidence and self esteem. The skin is a reflection of our overall health, so I use a 'root cause' approach to get to the bottom of why someone is experience skin issues.

Coeliac Disease

Gluten is a taboo subject these days, but for coeliacs this is a real challenge. After experiencing someone close to me with the disease, it  really opened my eyes to how it impacts everything from preparing food at home, eating out and going abroad. The knock on health effects after diagnosis need to be carefully managed to ensure optimal nutrient absorption. I can help guide you in your journey whether you are newly diagnosed or have had the condition long term and still don't feel in top health.

Digestive Disorders

By far the most common complaint these days is digestive issues. From stress, to eating on the run to convenience foods, we could all some help to make sure our digestion is working to keep us healthy. The gut is vital to our overall health, which is why I start here with clients no matter what their condition. I can also help if you have  diagnosed conditions such as IBS, IBD or diverticulitis.
